Summer Study Abroad Real or a Dream

Now you sit down and take some breakfast but your mind is still very busy with the thought that a summer study abroad program is the solution to get out of the rate race. Waiting for the bus to go to school you ask yourself, is study abroad real or a dream. The bus is stopping in front of the school and you drag yourself to the science class. While listen to the teacher about science stuff what is not in any interest to you your mind is going back till this morning when you woke up with the dream to study abroad. Just thinking about summer study abroad in a sunny Italy and eating pizzas. Or dreaming of a nice study abroad in London where we can visit the Big Ben. The bell is ringing the class is over and now going to the next boring class where we can hear the same thing again. The study abroad idea is still in your mind the whole day and you still not sure if it is real or fiction the day is coming to an end and you are again waiting for the bus to go home. During this journey you say to your self that you need to do something to make your dream come true. When the bus stops you get out and go home. After taking some orange juice you get behind the PC and you Google the internet for study abroad. You get a lot of information regarding study abroad programs. It is a jungle out there to get the right information and you get impatient and tired. You feel that the study abroad in Italy and London gets further away. But you are determining to get your summer study abroad information what you need to get your mind to rest. Your eyes are getting smaller and you get tired and frustrated. You need to go to bed because tomorrow is a one off those boring days at school again. You feel defeated because you did not find the study abroad program you wanted. In bed you are closing your tired eyes and dream again of the nice summer study abroad. The alarm clock is ringing it is 6.45 in the morning you open your eyes and look out of the window and you see snow. You ask yourself is this real or a dream. Olive Oils: Extra Virgin Varietals Offer a World of Flavor

By John McBride If the extent of your experience buying olive oil is at the supermarket – it’s shelved lined with olive oils bearing labels with Italian-sounding names you may think olive oil is an Italian, or primarily Italian food. If so, you would be very wrong. Olive oil was introduced to America primarily by Italians – hence the proliferation of Italian (or Italian-sounding) olive oil brands. But olive oil comes from places as far apart as Spain and Australia and each location gives a unique flavor and quality to the oil it produces. If you’re limiting yourself to one geographic origin, youre missing a whole palate of olive oil flavors. Everyone knows that the same grape produces different wines in different locations. The Cabernet Sauvignons of California are different wines than the Bordeaux of France even though they are pressed from the same grape. Every wine has a terroir that is, factors that influence its taste due to where it comes from, especially the soil and climate where the fruit was grown. Although many people don’t realize it, olive oil also has a terroir. Other than separating it from the watery juice produced when the olives are crushed, extra virgin olive oil undergoes virtually no other processing. So, the product that you pour on your salads or other dishes or dip your bread in is pretty much straight from the fruit. In fact, unlike many “fresh squeezed” juices you may find at the supermarket, cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil is not pasteurized or heated, so there is no loss of flavor components due to heating. Olives for oil are grown in countries around the world, including Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Israel, Tunisia, Jordan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States. While you may find the same varietal – say Manzanilla – being grown in Spain, Israel, Australia and California, the olive and its oil will taste different in each location. This is due to differences in soil composition, water and climate. The olive tree takes all of these influences and condenses them into the olive – producing its “terroir”, that is, the factors in its flavor that are influenced by its growing location. (By the way the next time you have your big plastic bottle of “Italian” olive oil from the supermarket at hand, take a close look at the label. Chances are youll find the phrase “Contains oils from” followed by a list of countries, none of which are Italy! What you have then, is a blend of oils where any terroir has been blended out.) Fine extra virgin olive oils are a seasoning. They add critical flavor nuances to any dish and some oils fit a particular dish better than others – just as some wines are better suited to certain foods. If you enjoy olive oil, you should collect a few bottles of different varietals from different geographic regions. Don’t be afraid of spending more for fine oils that you do for your everyday oil – you’ll use a lot less of it. Gourmet quality extra virgin oils should not be used for high-temperature cooking or frying as the heat destroys flavor components. Instead, use a lower-priced oil for the actual cooking and finish with a splash of the gourmet oils. Just a splash of fine extra-virgin olive oil will give great flavor to your dishes. A feature that is becoming more common in gourmet stores across the country is the olive oil tasting bar. If you happen across one, take a moment to taste the same varietals from different locations and compare different varietals to each other. The differences may surprise you. Any food, even bland white bread, will change your perception of olive oil flavors. So, when you do a tasting, try doing it the way professionals do – sip the oil without dipping anything into it. Pour a bit in a small cup and warm it gently in your hand. Then smell the oil to experience its aroma. Then take a sip. Work the oil around your mouth before you swallow to get the full impact of its body and flavor. Then, after you swallow, wait several seconds – many oils have a pleasant peppery pungency you’ll feel in the back of your throat after a short delay. Color doesn’t indicate quality, so try not to let it influence you. If you just lose weight, then you lose water weight, muscle mass, and maybe a little bit of fat if you are lucky. On the other hand, if you burn fat and increase muscle mass then you will help to raise your metabolism and have results that are permanent! Once you are on the right track to burn fat and not lose muscle mass, you stand a better chance to see the results you want to than the vast majority of people out there! This article will show you two common mistakes that people make when trying to burn fat. 2 Common Burn Fat but Not Muscle Mistakes MISTAKE #1: Long “same speed” cardio routines This is one of the most common methods that people use to try and burn fat. There are a few problems with trying to do too much cardio. One of them is that your body will rapidly adapt to a cardio routine where you go at the same speed the whole time. This means that before long, you have to go longer and harder to get the same physiological challenge as when you started. This is not a good way to burn fat! Another problem with same speed cardio is that it does not help to change your metabolism. If you want to burn fat and change your metabolism through cardio, then you need to try doing something called interval training. Interval training is a great way to burn fat because it involves using both high and low intensities during your cardio routine. For example, you can try doing 2 minutes slow followed by 1 minute fast. By doing this 2-1 minute interval 3-6 times each cardio workout, you will stimulate your metabolism to burn lots of calories after you are done working out! If you want to do cardio to help burn fat but not lose muscle, interval training is definitely the way to go! MISTAKE #2: Trying to consume too few calories This is also known as “crash dieting”. This is not a good way to burn fat because crash dieting is more likely to make you lose weight. As you can remember from earlier in this article, losing weight is almost a surefire way to gain it all back and become more and more frustrated. Instead of doing some crazy diet where you only consume 500-1000 calories a day, try these basic techniques instead. First, try eating between 4-6 small meals per day that consist of the right types of protein, complex carbs, and good fats. The main thing you want to avoid when trying to burn fat and not lose muscle is high glycemic “bad” carbs. These carbs raise your blood sugar and make your body release more insulin to store it as fat. Celiac And The Gluten Gut-Brain Connection Seen In Reversible Abnormal SPECT Brain Scans

Improvement of these abnormalities are seen on a gluten-free diet. The frontal area of the brain is important in brain function that controls attention, impulse control, organization, and problem solving. Problems in this area of the brain result in short attention span, disorganization, procrastination, short-term memory problems, anxiety and depression. Not surprisingly these are common symptoms reported by Sprue patients and in non-celiac gluten sensitivity that improve with a GFD. ADD, schizophrenia, alcohol and drug addiction problems and depression, all associated with gluten in some studies, are also associated with functional disturbances in the frontal area of the brain seen on SPECT scans. Though the reports of SPECT imaging in celiac disease are limited there have been some very interesting findings that make sense to those of us familiar with the effect of gluten on the brain. The most dramatic report I have found comes from a 1997 report of a newly diagnosed celiac diease patient with established schizophrenia whose symptoms and abnormal SPECT scan reversed on a gluten-free diet. He presented with an established diagnosis of schizophrenia, diarrhea and weight loss. Endomysial antibody was positive and villous atrophy was present on intestinal biopsy. SPECT scan was performed before and after gluten free diet. Before GFD, the scan confirmed abnormal decreased blood flow to the frontal lobe of the brain. With a GFD schizophrenia symptoms resolved, the intestinal lesion resolved and the SPECT scan became normal. More recently in 2004, Usai et al. reported 34 celiac patients in whom 70% had abnormal SPECT scans. Again the abnormalities were most pronounced in the frontal areas of the brain and were less severe on a gluten free diet. SPECT is single photon emission computerized tomography. It is a combined nuclear medicine CAT scan of the head performed by injecting a radioisotope material that is taken up by the brain according to blood flow and metabolism. Maintaining Your Body With Work

By Bryan Brodeur We are born by way of a trauma. We undergo, daily: traumas, strains, abnormal postural positioning, and a whole host of events that bend and twist our physique into the wrong form. The events we endure deposit stress into our muscle system. Stress of a physical, chemical, or emotional origin come into your body every day and diminish the power your body might otherwise have. In a nutshell, we deform our physique on a daily basis. If our nervous system, our arterial system, our lymphatic system, and our venous system rely so heavily on our flexibility and our balance, what do we expect: a twisted, stiff body to deliver to us? What sort of body will we have? Many people will have tried a massage, or a visit to the chiropractor, or a consultation with a physiotherapist. These are the experts that can bring our body to its proper form. We cannot, alone, guarantee and maintain a properly shaped and a fully flexible physique. We need body work. I believe that in an ultimate life, we would each have a session of body work on a weekly basis from the day we are born, on throughout the rest of our life. If you have had only one or two such sessions in your life, even if you have had two dozen, I promise you are far from the proper shape. Before you jump onto any program that chemically or surgically attempts to alter your life, make a commitment to the physique work you have learned, and to the body work we are discussing. I am amazed at the amount of money we will waste on lavishly expensive supplements and drugs while we are walking in crooked frames with handicapped circulatory and nervous systems. What is the point? Invest the time and the money in proper body work if you wish to have a full flourishing life. Most of my new patients who come to my office in their mid to late thirties have one or more inches of difference in leg length due entirely to unhealthy shifts in their posture. This means they have clotted their arteries, their veins, their lymphatic vessels, and that they have blocked the flow of their nervous system in multiple areas, throughout their body, for years, often for decades. They normally come to me with a backache, or a muscle ache, or a pinched nerve. The response that is expected is a complete resolution of their issue with a few treatments, or perhaps some sort of supplement or medication that can hide their pain. This sort of attitude towards our physique is exactly why we die primarily of degenerative diseases. A full postural correction in a mature adult can require a year of body work, often with sessions of care three times every week. This isnt an easy commitment for most adults to make when they never understood the necessity of body work in the first place. Understand that from the time you begin body work, your ultimate commitment and your best results will come from a weekly commitment to bringing your core to its correct form, for the remainder of your life. Ligaments, Vertebral Arteries and the Sub Occiput-Their Role in Structural Integrity

Nelson The structural health of the neck is not just the maintenance of muscles, but the maintenance of; (1) The Ligaments; That support the vertebrae but have a minimal blood supply, unlike muscle tissue. Ligaments are the tissue system that binds bones together supporting joints and regulating their range of movement. Being poor in blood supply, they do not heal easily and are prone to calcium deposits, causing wear and tear arthritic changes to the joints. This can cause friction against the wall of the Vertebral Arteries as they pass through the Cervical Vertebrae wearing the wall thin and or, impeding the flow. Ligaments need deep massage and traction to promote good blood supply, full ranges of movement and the re-absorption of calcium deposits. (2) The Vertebral Arteries travel up through the vertebral foramina of each cervical vertebra. They enter the spine at the level of the 6th cervical vertebra (base of the neck) and travel up to the head where, to get into the cranium the vertebral arteries take, Two 90degree turns to supply about two thirds of the blood supply to the brain – which needs a minute to minute supply of glucose and oxygen to maintain its normal function. The vertebral arteries supply the deeper, autonomic centers of the brain, if the blood supply is diminished to these areas we have all types of dysfunctional conditions arising particularly as we age! If you can help to maintain the structural integrity of your cervical spine (neck) and therefore the blood supply to your brain the better you are going to be getting older as gravity grinds us ALL into the ground the inexorable factor. People forget that GRAVITY is the main reason we need 8 hours sleep a day and that our Rigging is our best way to pass this force through us, with as little wear and tear as possible. (3) The area known as the Sub Occiput is the level of the neck where the spine articulates with the base of the head, or cranium. Traction and deep inhibition to this area can affect our function through the many important physiological centers that are situated at the top of the neck. The Carotid sinus, at the top of the Carotid arteries carries the other third of the blood supply to the brain. This collection of nerves controls feedback information from the hearts pumping, for regulation of blood pressure. The 10th cranial nerve The Vagus Nerve leaves the cranium in this region and is one half of the control on the hearts rate of beating. The vagal nerve supplies rhythmic nerve impulses/control to the motor functions of most of the gastro-intestinal system, our peristalsis or gut motion. The amount of muscle investment in the Sub Occiput is great it needs to turn the head very quickly with control, it needs to hold the heaviest part of our body on the top of two small condyles and not impair that blood supply or pinch those nerve. These muscles are intimately connected to the muscles of mastication and all the emotional elements that the mouth and jaw can bring up that makes us grind our teeth at night or clench so tight we wake with a pounding headache. The Sub Occiput can be tight when we go to bed, impairing our sleep and even tighter the next morning, the impairment of blood supply can be debilitating, the whole cycle repeating more and more intensely each day. There are so many control mechanisms in the Sub Occipital Region and the rest of the neck and spine, that normal structural integrity is very, very important to the normality of most of our Function.
